Experimental Cocktail Club
The Experimental Cocktail Club is a Paris-born bar group that opened its first New York location in 2012 on the Lower East Side, closed it in 2016, and returned in September 2024 with a new room beneath La Compagnie Flatiron at 6 West 24th Street. The new space is a subterranean lounge with ten bar seats, thirty table seats, and enough room to move around, which the original location did not always have.
The cocktail program was designed by Nico de Soto, who has been with the ECC group since the Paris days and helped open both the London and original New York locations. The menu mixes classics like the Old Cuban and St. Germain des Pres with drinks built using clarification, carbonation, and lacto-fermentation. The techniques are precise and the results drink well.
The Flatiron location is accessed through the wine bar above it. It's the kind of subterranean room that the neighborhood has more of than any other part of the city.
