Las Perlas opened in 2010 in DTLA as one of the first mezcal bars in the United States, operating out of the historic Santa Fe building in the Arts District. The selection has grown to over 400 agave spirits, which puts it among the most comprehensive mezcal programs anywhere in the country. The room is small, low-lit, and divey in the best sense, with a Oaxacan cantina sensibility that extends to the late-night taco menu. Live music plays most nights with no cover charge, and the bar draws a mix of DTLA regulars, mezcal enthusiasts, and people who wandered in and stayed. It fills up fast on weekends.
