La Cuevita translates roughly to the little cave, and the bar earns the name. It sits in Highland Park in a small, dark space where a full wall of shelving is dedicated almost entirely to mezcal and tequila, including Del Maguey bottles ranging from entry-level to the expensive Pechuga expression. The decor runs Dia de los Muertos throughout, with skulls, upside-down bats, and skeleton figures framing the bottles. Bartenders know the spirits well and can walk you through the range if you are not sure where to start. Happy hour runs from open until 8pm daily, and Taco Tuesdays bring $6 margaritas all night alongside free tacos after 10pm. It is one of the better mezcal bars in the city and the Highland Park neighborhood gives it a crowd that actually knows what it is ordering.
