La Noxe

Rating: 3.7 315 7th Ave , Entrance, 162 W 28th St at Website Yelp Instagram

La Noxe is inside the 28th Street subway station in Chelsea, accessible before the turnstiles, which means you can get to it without paying for a train. The entrance requires buzzing in and having a reservation confirmed by a hostess before you go through.

The room is red-tinted with velvet couches and a glowing bar, designed to evoke a 1970s artist's studio. Drinks include things like the Forbidden Love, built with aloe vera, lemon, and vodka, and there's a seafood-forward food menu with tiradito and octopus. Jay Perie opened it in 2020 and the late-night energy is best experienced after ten-thirty, when the room settles into whatever it's actually trying to be.

Two bars have now done the subway station concept in New York, which says something about the city's willingness to treat its transit infrastructure as a venue.
