Keys and Heels is on Second Avenue on the Upper East Side and is fronted by a working locksmith and shoe repair shop. From the sidewalk it looks genuinely like the kind of place where you'd get a key copied or your boots resoled. The bar is behind it. The commitment to the bit extends to the street-level presentation: nothing about the exterior signals that anything else is happening inside.

The cocktail list takes crowd-pleasers and sharpens them. A Paper Plane, a Sidecar, a Daiquiri, each done with real care. The room has retro decor and dreamy lighting. Some nights there are magic shows; other nights there's surprise live music with the performers announced after the guests are already seated.
