Blind Barber

Rating: 3.8 Price: $$$ East Village, 339 E 10th St Website Yelp Instagram

Blind Barber opened in the East Village in 2010 with a dual concept that has since expanded to other cities but started here. During the day it's a proper working barbershop. Haircuts come with a complimentary bourbon on the rocks, which is either a great perk or a questionable sequence of events depending on how you think about it.

From around six in the evening, the back of the shop transforms. A scuffed metal door leads into a speakeasy with an oak bar, intimate booths, and a full dance floor where a DJ plays hip-hop and remixed sets most nights. The two halves of the business are separated by design: the barbershop is bright and functional, the bar behind it is dim and opulent.

The sweet spot is between six and nine when the barbershop is still cutting hair and you can get a haircut and a cocktail in the same visit. It runs until four in the morning, which is late even by East Village standards.
