Black Hound is in Battery Park City at 301 South End Avenue, which is not a neighborhood that produces many bars worth going out of your way for. This one is an exception. Mixologist Jeremy Strawn built the cocktail program here, and the drinks are well-composed without being precious about it.

The room is dark amber, all dark wood and plush seating with a marble bar top that feels like it belongs somewhere more expensive. The back lounge has large sofas and wingback chairs. It's the kind of place where conversation is easy because the design keeps things quiet and close.
