Seven Grand on 7th Street in DTLA opened in 2007 and is credited by many as one of the bars that made downtown Los Angeles a place people actually went to drink. The main room has the feel of a mid-century gentleman's club complete with fox-hunt wallpaper and taxidermy, and the whiskey wall requires a library ladder to reach the higher shelves in a collection that exceeds 900 bottles. The selection covers ryes, scotch, bourbon, and international whiskies from Japan, India, Taiwan, Canada, and Australia. Whiskey Society tastings are held regularly for people who want to go deeper into the program. Through a separate entrance in the back is Bar Jackalope, a hidden Japanese whisky bar with a cigar patio that operates as a bar-within-a-bar.
