The Burgundy Room has been on Cahuenga in Hollywood since 1919, originally operating as a speakeasy connected to a restaurant through a secret door before Prohibition ended. Over the decades it went through several lives including a stint as a biker bar called Dave's Cave before being rechristened the Burgundy Room in 1989. Today it is a dark, compact Hollywood dive with red-glass candles on the tables, a rock and punk soundtrack, and stiff drinks at prices that feel like they belong to a different era. The crowd is eclectic and laid-back. It is one of the oldest continuously-operating bars in Hollywood and it still carries some of that history in the walls.
