As You Are operates as a cafe by day and bar by night, functioning as a comprehensive safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community in Capitol Hill. The inclusive venue welcomes all ages until 9pm for coffee, food, and fellowship, then transforms into a 21+ bar and dance lounge after dark. Diverse programming happens almost nightly with trans nights, sign and vibe events for the deaf community, social sport leagues, queer youth socials, weekly karaoke, book clubs, open mics, and dance parties. In 2023, Esquire magazine recognized As You Are as one of the 42 best gay bars in America.
