Gold Clover Bar
Gold Clover Bar opened in 2024 in the former Truxton Inn space at 251 Florida Avenue NW in Shaw, right in that sweet spot between U Street and H Street that makes it easy to fold into a night out in either direction. The bar was opened by the same owners behind the beloved Solly's Tavern, and they brought that same neighborhood-first philosophy with them.
The vibe blends a vinyl-spinning, low-lit speakeasy feel with the unpretentious warmth of a true dive bar. There is no dress code, no velvet rope, no attitude. Just good music, good drinks, and a room full of people who actually live nearby.
The cocktail program punches above what the prices suggest. The signature Manhattan comes with a plum wine twist, and the Whiskey Sour is made with egg white foam that gives it a satisfying silkiness. Drinks run from $8 wines to $12 beer and shot combos called "handshakes," keeping things accessible. Gold Clover also has a bring-your-own-food policy, so grabbing takeout from a nearby spot and settling in for the evening is not just allowed, it's encouraged.
It is the kind of Black-owned neighborhood bar that DC genuinely needed more of, and the community has embraced it warmly since day one.
