Vermillion
Vermillion
A split space on Capitol Hill where an art gallery occupies the front and a full bar claims the back, creating a cavernous yet intimate room with perfect lighting and no windows. Founded in 2007 by Diana Adams, Vermillion balances high art and good times equally.
The front gallery rotates monthly exhibitions featuring contemporary and traditional pieces, with a focus on narrative art that's smart, humorous, and sometimes raw. The back bar features a jukebox spinning great old 45s, board games, inexpensive wine, and delicious snacks. A full range of cultural happenings occur in the bar space: live music, poetry readings, themed dance nights.
Open Wednesday-Thursday 5-11pm, Friday-Saturday 5-1:30am. Located at 1508 11th Ave in Capitol Hill, Vermillion proves that art and alcohol make excellent neighbors. It's maturely social, genuinely creative, and refreshingly unpretentious.
