Redwood Room
The Redwood Room at The Clift Royal Sonesta Hotel, 495 Geary Street, is a historic Art Deco bar opened in 1933 on the day after Prohibition was repealed. Paneled entirely with wood from a single redwood tree, the intimate yet expansive bar features an enormous bar made from an 800-year-old redwood tree. Original artwork by Austrian painter Gustav Klimt has been restored and re-hung. Glass bar and furniture were redesigned by Philippe Starck. The Redwood Room has been at the center of the San Francisco social scene since opening. Dress code: no open-toed shoes, flip-flops, sandals, baseball caps, or shorts. Open Tuesday-Saturday 5pm-12am.
