The Little Shop

Rating: 4.1 252 Front St Website Yelp Instagram

The Little Shop is near the South Street Seaport on Front Street in the Financial District, and it operates as a fully functional corner bodega in the front. Coffee for a dollar fifty, chips, sandwiches, batteries, medicine. The kind of store that every New York block used to have more of.

Past the Nishiki rice and the sugar in the back, there's a sliding door that opens into a cocktail bar. The room inside was designed to feel like a living room, with most of the decor including the vintage glassware sourced from the Brimfield Flea Market in Massachusetts. The drinks are unfussy: Turmeric, Double Hot Chocolate, Ginger. Quality ingredients, no elaborate narrative attached.

The bodega front is functional and not just decorative, which separates it from bars that use a convenience store aesthetic as a prop. You can actually buy a bag of chips before you go in.
