The Raines Law Room at The William is on East 39th Street inside a converted townhouse a few blocks from Grand Central. The building was formerly a university club and still carries the proportions of something that was built to feel permanent. The speakeasy is spread across several rooms, each with velvet curtains, gold accents, softly glowing lamps, and the kind of seating that is designed to keep people in it for a long time.

It shares a cocktail program with the Chelsea location, which means Bar Director Meaghan Dorman's seasonal and classic drinks are available here as well. The Midtown location draws a slightly different crowd: hotel guests, people coming from nearby offices, couples who did some research before booking. Reservations run Monday through Saturday for parties of eight or fewer.

The two Raines Law Room locations have the same ethos and the same quality, but The William has a different physical character that makes it feel more like wandering into someone's very well-appointed private library.
