The Original Nite Cap is a historic speakeasy that has experienced a remarkable revival after decades of closure. Originally established in the 1960s by the legendary Big Chief Alfred Doucette, the venue closed in the 1980s before being rediscovered when renovation workers found the original signage during building renovations. In summer 2024, burlesque star Bella Blue, Andrew Principe, and JD Solomon reopened the venue at 1300 St. Bernard Avenue, combining the speakeasy concept with live entertainment, burlesque performances, and a full bar. The upstairs location in the corner of St. Bernard and Marais creates a cozy, intimate space perfect for quality cocktails and curated performances. The friendly staff, awesome food options, and excellent live music draw locals seeking authentic nightlife away from the French Quarter tourist gauntlet. Bella Blue's reputation brings credibility to the burlesque programming, which is described as the best in the city. The space itself carries the weight of history while feeling fresh and vital under new management. Whether you're coming for the craft cocktails, the entertainment, or the opportunity to participate in the revival of a storied New Orleans institution, The Original Nite Cap delivers an experience that honors its past while embracing its future. It's the kind of venue that reminds you why the city's nightlife scene remains a constant evolution.
