Rhythm Room LA is in the basement of the Hayward Hotel on 6th Street in DTLA, a space that originally operated as a jazz speakeasy during the 1920s. The current owners restored the original checkered floors and marble staircase and kept the bones of the room, adding midcentury decor and a collection of games including pool, ping pong, and shuffleboard. Live music plays on a large projector stage most nights, with a $5 cover charge at the door. The full bar is straightforward and the food is available during operating hours. Walking down the stairs from the street legitimately changes the atmosphere, which is a thing that does not happen with most DTLA bars. Hours are Thursday through Saturday, with Sunday afternoon sets.
